Psychiatry Institute for Medical Students

This is a one-week program held at the end of the academicPostgraduate Residency Program year for first and second year medical students from universities across Canada to expose them to potential role models and mentors in the field of psychiatry. Each day consists of morning interactive seminars and afternoon elective placements. The week serves both an educational and social function and is meant to give those who may be uncertain about a life as a psychiatrist more information.

Summer Institute 2016: June 6 – 10

We had yet another fulfilling Summer Institute. A total of 23 students from various medical schools across Canada attended the week-long program. Students came from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, Queen’s, University of Ottawa, University of Saskatchewan, University of Western Ontario, and the University of Toronto.  Students had the chance to meet with our faculty in different subspecialties such as addictions, child and adolescent psychiatry, cultural psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, general psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, medical psychiatry,  psychotherapy, and women’s mental health. Many students left with positive attitudes and reinforced their interest in pursuing a residency in psychiatry.
