Department of Psychiatry

Telepsychiatry at the University of Toronto

…a wonder service…

My patient is most pleased with the telehealth process as it is less stressful than having to travel.

…This service is of great benefit to Northern Ontario patients as there is a lack of psychiatrists…Our clinic has found your service valuable to our patients.

An invaluable service to the residents of our region. The wait time in our area for a non-emergency psychiatric consultation is 9 to18 months. Our patients have been very satisfied with the service received from your program. Consultation reports from the psychiatrists have been beneficial in the continuing care of our patients. Thank you.

A significant aspect of the Departmental strategic planning process is to address mental health needs in Toronto and across the entire province.  Telehealth offers innovative ways to increase equitable access to mental health services.  There are telehealth programs across the department’s teaching hospital sites, which deliver best-practices in mental health care through community partnerships across Ontario and beyond.

Our new departmental steering committee aims to:

  • share and build expertise in this developing clinical area;
  • to create new clinical and research partnerships;
  • and, to provide enhanced educational opportunities for trainees in the Department of Psychiatry, interprofessional learners, and community partners.

All sites encourage Medical Students and Psychiatry Residents to participate in their clinical and educational programs.  Learners from other disciplines are also welcome to contact us regarding potential opportunities.  Below is a summary of telepsychiatry program across the department, along with their area of focus, and a primary contact:
