Division of Equity, Gender and Population

The overall aim of the Division of Equity, Gender and Population (EGP), is to improve the quality of mental health care across our diverse communities through a focus on equity, social justice, gender, culture, advocacy and population health.

Division Director: Dr. Simone Vigod (Associate Professor, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto)

Division Executive: Dr. Lisa Andermann, Dr. Ariel Dalfen, Dr. Ken Fung, Dr. Sophie Grigoriadis, Dr. Nancy McCallum, Dr. Alpna Munshi, Dr. Suvercha Pasricha, Dr. Lori Wasserman and Dr. Gail Robinson.

Members: There are 83 faculty in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto with primary affiliations to EGP: 12 full professors, 9 associate professors, 35 assistant professors, 33 lecturers and 1 emeritus professor. Members are appointed to each of the University of Toronto Academic Health Science Network (TAHSN) hospitals, with additional representation from community hospitals. Some members are cross appointed to Ryerson University, York University and McMaster University.  

Goals: EGP supports faculty members with strong inter-professional programs of academic scholarship that include excellence in research, clinical training and education and creative professional activities related to equity, gender and population health. The division goals are to be:

  1. An inspiring and empowering home for its members,
  2. A beacon for recruitment and development of new talent, and
  3. A Centre of Academic Excellence with a 360 degree perspective where we take the time to view issues related to equity in psychiatry from every available angle to achieve maximal impact.

EGP Division Members are pioneering clinical, research, educational, community engagement and advocacy initiatives that promote equitable outcomes for patients, communities and that promote diversity, inclusion and equity within the healthcare teams that serve them.
