I received my Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of Toronto/OISE in 1991 and became a registered psychologist in 1995. My first position was with the Department of Behavioral Psychology at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. I also held an appointment as an Instructor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine during part of this time. I moved to Hamilton Health Sciences/McMaster Children’s Hospital in 1994 where I held a number of positions over a 20-year period, including director of outpatient mental health and behavioural services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities and clinical supervisor with a community-based program for children with autism spectrum disorder. I came to the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in 2014 to take the position of Director of Interprofessional Practice with the Underserved Populations Program (child, youth and family, dual diagnosis and geriatric mental health). I have also been a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Angelman Syndrome Foundation since 2006.

Research Synopsis

My research interests pertain to the assessment and treatment of psychiatric and behavioural disorders in individuals with intellectual disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorder and neurobehavioural phenotypes in individuals with genetic disorders and intellectual disabilities.
