Dr. Mera Barr is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Associate Member of the Institute of Medical Science, University of Toronto. She is an Independent Scientist in the Schizophrenia Division and Cross-Appointed Scientist at the Temerty Centre for Therapeutic Brain Intervention, Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

 


Research Synopsis

Dr. Barr’s research uses brain stimulation and neuroimaging techniques to understand the pathophysiology and treatment of psychiatric disordered patients with co-morbid substance abuse. Her main interests include studying the effects of tobacco and cannabis smoking on brain mechanisms and cognition in people with and without schizophrenia. Dr. Barr has been awarded a Brain and Behavior Research Foundation (formerly NARSAD) Young Investigator Grant to evaluate cannabis abstinence on cortical inhibition in schizophrenia.
